Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information The Savvy Humanities collects from you, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legal jargon.

The Savvy Humanities is owned and operated by Aditi Ojha, an individual proprietor based in Howrah, West Bengal 711106, India.

Information we collect

We only ask for what we actually need:

When you contact us or join the notes waitlist: your name, email address, the class and subject you are studying, and whatever you write in your message.
When you buy something: your name, email address and mobile number. We never see or store your card, UPI or net-banking details — payments are handled entirely by Razorpay, our payment provider.
Your account (created when you buy): your name, email address and mobile number, and a password that is stored in encrypted form. To buy, you need an account. We create it for you at checkout, because your notes, tests and downloads are linked to it. Your account lets you see your orders, download your notes again and use the tests and doubt features included with your purchase. You can also create an account yourself from My Account, and you can ask us to close it at any time.
Updates and offers (only if you say yes): whether you ticked the separate box to receive updates, and when. Creating an account or buying something does not sign you up for them.
Automatically: basic technical information such as your browser type and pages visited, through cookies. This is used to keep the site working and to understand roughly how it is used.

Students under 18

Most of our students are in Class 11 and 12, and many are under 18. Indian law (the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023) requires a parent or guardian to consent before a child’s personal data is processed.

Every form on this site asks you to confirm that you are 18 or older, or that you have your parent or guardian’s permission.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from a child without that confirmation.
We do not track children for advertising, and we do not show behavioural or targeted ads to anyone.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us information without your permission, email us and we will delete it.

Why we use your information

To reply to your message or question
To tell you when notes you asked about are ready
To deliver and support anything you have purchased
To run your account, if you create one, so you can see your orders and download your notes again
To send you occasional updates about new notes, batches and offers by email or WhatsApp — only if you have ticked the box for this. You can stop them any time by unticking it in My Account → Account Details, or by emailing us.
To keep records required by Indian tax and consumer law
To keep the website secure and working properly

We do not sell your information, rent it, or share it with advertisers.

Who we share information with

Only the services we need to run the site, and only what they need:

Razorpay — to process payments securely
Hostinger — website hosting and email (the emails we send you go through it)
Cloudflare — runs the technical service behind Ask a Doubt, where your saved doubts are kept, linked only to a coded account number
OpenAI — prepares the answer to a doubt. It receives only the question you type and our chapter notes, never your name, email address or phone number
Google — Google Analytics for site statistics and YouTube for videos shown on our pages (both only if you accept the matching cookies), and Google Fonts (your browser fetches the font files from Google to display our text)
Telegram — private alerts to our own team only, for example if a Doubt Solver message suggests a student may be unsafe, so that a person can follow up
WhatsApp (Meta) — only to deliver WhatsApp messages you have agreed to receive
Government authorities, if we are legally required to disclose something

Cookies

This site uses cookies to keep it functioning and to remember your preferences. When you first visit, a banner lets you choose Accept All, Only Essential, Decline or Preferences. Cookies for site statistics (Google Analytics) and embedded YouTube videos are used only if you accept them, while the cookies needed for login, cart and checkout always work. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the site may not work properly if you do.

Tests and results

When you take a practice test, we record the test, your selected answers, score, accuracy and attempt history so you can see your result and review your work. If you are signed in, your attempts are linked to your account and shown under My Account → My Tests. If you take a test as a guest, a temporary browser token connects you to your attempt; guest attempts are deleted after 24 hours. Authorised site staff can review results to check and improve the questions and tests. You can ask for a copy of your test data or request its deletion by emailing hello@thesavvyhumanities.com. Test answers and scores do not subscribe you to marketing updates. Premium practice tests are unlocked by checking the notes orders linked to your account (not by your email address alone); access lasts till 31 March of the academic session (at least 90 days from payment) and ends if the order is refunded.

Doubt Solver. If you use Ask a Doubt in My Account, we save the question you type, the answer, the chapter and the date, linked to a coded account number. The question is sent to our AI service provider (OpenAI) only to prepare the answer; your name, email and phone number are not sent. Doubts are deleted after 180 days. The service that processes and stores them runs on Cloudflare, our technical service provider. Please do not write personal details in a doubt. If a message suggests that a student may be unsafe, our team may be alerted through a private Telegram message and may contact the account holder to help.

How long we keep your information

Enquiries and waitlist entries are kept for as long as they are useful and then deleted. Purchase and payment records are kept for as long as Indian tax and accounting law requires. If you create an account, it stays until you ask us to close it; we then delete your account details but keep purchase records for as long as the law requires. If you stop updates, we stop sending them straight away. You can ask us to delete your data sooner.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

Tell you what personal data we hold about you
Correct anything that is wrong
Delete your data or close your account
Withdraw consent you previously gave
Nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf

Just email us and we will act on it within a reasonable time, at no cost to you.

Keeping your data safe

The site runs over an encrypted HTTPS connection and access to our systems is limited. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will tell you if something goes seriously wrong.
