Chapter 1 of Part A, Indian Constitution at Work. CBSE marks Chapters 1 and 2 of Part A together: 8 marks out of 80 for this chapter and Rights in the Indian Constitution combined. Checked against CBSE’s own 2026-27 curriculum document.

What are the functions of a constitution?

The book gives a constitution five functions, and the notes keep them in the book’s own order — coordination and assurance first, then who decides, limits on government, and the aspirations of a society. The three tests of a constitution’s authority follow.

How was the Constituent Assembly formed?

Through the Cabinet Mission plan of 1946, by indirect election from the provincial assemblies. Every key date from formation to adoption is laid out in sequence.

How did the Constituent Assembly work?

By deliberation and public reason rather than majority vote alone. The Objectives Resolution is taken point by point.

What did India borrow from other constitutions?

A table of what India adopted and from which country — the borrowed features the paper asks you to match.
